3. What We Use Instead: localStorage
We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to store your preferences locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser and is never sent to our servers. localStorage is used for: theme preference (dark/light mode), favorite currencies, recent conversions, and calculator settings.
4. Data Stored in localStorage
Theme preference: 'dark' or 'light' — a single string value. Favorite currencies: currency codes you've marked as favorites. Conversion history: recent conversions for quick access. All data is stored only on your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
5. Third-Party Cookies
We do not use any third-party cookies for advertising or tracking. Our exchange rate API calls are server-side and do not involve cookies. Google Analytics may set cookies if enabled, but we use it in a privacy-respecting configuration.
6. How to Clear localStorage
You can clear all locally stored data at any time: Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12), go to the Application tab, select Local Storage, and click 'Clear'. Alternatively, clearing your browser data will also remove localStorage entries.
7. No Cookie Consent Banner Needed
Since we do not use tracking cookies and only use localStorage for essential functionality and user preferences, we do not require a cookie consent banner under GDPR and ePrivacy regulations. localStorage for user preferences is considered 'strictly necessary'.
